Dahlia Resources: Yay for small women owned businesses!

Writer's picture: Anna MonfilsAnna Monfils

I opened my store at noon on January 1st. The website lit up with dahlia enthusiasts! I was stunned, thrilled, overwhelmed and so grateful. What a fantastic start to 2025. Thank you all for your orders and for a great start to the Dahlia season.

I wanted to take a moment and point out some great resources. I do not receive anything for promoting these sources (I would disclose that if that were the case). I am just so impressed with the amazing small businesses and great resources and love to promote my fellow dahlia enthisiast. I'll also be very clear that I want these people to stay in busines because I need these resources!

Dahlia Addict (Dahliaaddict.com)

Yup! A centralized resource that sorts by variety, color, form. You can find tubers or cuttings, look up dahlia suppliers (see reviews), and see pricing and availability across different sellers. They even have a page where they show most common offered and most searched varieties. If you are a hard core dahlia addict and want to participate in dahlia wars, they show opening dates and recently opened shops. Some features (like reviews and sold out status) require you to join the site which is less than $10 to join for a year (I think it is $5.99 but can't confirm since I don't see the joining information). I sell on this site and it has been huge for my farm.

Dahlia ID tags (ajtdahlias@gmail.com)

I love these ID cards! These tags are the most amazing resource for me. If I am doing an in person sale I can use these but they can also be used (and apparently reused) as labels in the garden. I can't vouch for the logevity with the weather but can say, I use the cards when selling, organizing and dreaming about the coming season. I am about to place an order for my 50 new varieties. At this point, It is fair to note I may have a problem.

I reached out this morning to Ann Trotter. She sent me some buying information. The ID cards are $1 each. They measure 2 ½” x 4 ¼”. They are laminated, and she indicated they were weatherproof and can be reused year after year. You can message her your list and mailing address or directly email it to ajtdahlias@gmail.com. Once she prints the list and calculates the shipping, she will send you a final total and payment instructions. She accepts Paypal, Venmo, Zelle or a check.

She stands behind her product! If you have a variety and she has not created a tag, she will reach out and ask for a picture. I've provided a few and she sites the image source. She also updates images. I had one case where the image someone provided to Ann did not match the variety. Even though this was not her error, she replaced the tag! That is some awesome customer service.

Dahlia Stamps (Etsy Store)

These are pretty amazing if you have a lot of tubers of a single variety. One of my least favortite tasks is writting our tags and labels. After weeks or months of dividing and labeling tubers, my hands ache. I jumped on these as soon as I saw them. I've since used them to label bags as well as tubers. I use archival ink (found at any craft store). The owner is Grace Asperin Evangelista, and was amazing to work with. When I ordered we traded dahlia for stamps. I suspect she might have moved away from this model as these are quite popular. I am also thrilled to see she has other items she sells in her Etsy store (storage, labels, etc.).

I love seeing these great resources. Flower people are the best people and women owned businesses deserve out support. I'm excited for 2025 and new things to learn and grow.
